Barley Cricket Club is a friendly village club located in the rolling hills near Royston, Hertfordshire. We currently put out two Saturday teams playing in the Cambridgeshire Cricket Leagues.
Our 1st XI now plays to a good standard in Cambs Senior 2 whilst the 2nd XI ply their trade in Cambs Junior 4 South as well as Cup competitions.
Both of our Saturday League teams held position in their respective higher leagues. The 1st XI finishing 5th and the 2nd XI finished 5th in what are much tougher leagues than the year previous.
Our 2nd XI entered the Lower Junior T20 Cup last season, reaching the final as we did in the previous season mainly thanks to an unbeaten 124 from Wakeel Shah. However our 2nd consecutive final appearance did not have the same happy ending as we lost to Abington.
We also run a Sunday Friendly XI made up from players of all abilities and ages. After each home game we visit The Chequers Inn where we are made very welcome by hosts Sophia & Leo, throughout the year we run social events such as quizzes, race nights and hog roasts & impromptu BBQ's to either have fun or raise vital funds for the club.
We are always on the look out for players wishing to join a thriving and successful club. Young players are welcome to join the club as are older players who may only be returning to cricket after many years away. Whatever your ability, age or family commitments, you are more than welcome to come along and have a game.
In the last two seasons we have won the Lower Junior T20 Cup and finished as runner-up the following season, we also had the privilege of playing and winning at The Kia Oval. Our winning team were also the guests of honour at the prestigious PCA end of season awards dinner in Central London.
